Tisha B’Av (the 9th day of Av) is the saddest day on the Jewish calendar. It is a day of fasting, forgoing pleasurable activities and amenities, and lamenting the destruction of the first and second Temples and the Jewish peoples’ exile. This class explores how long is it appropriate to mourn after a tragedy, when is it wise to honor an event through remembrance, and how to move forward through honoring the past while being creative with what is present. This class focuses on discrimination. Spiritual discrimination is a critical skill. Built into Creation are forces that support the light and forces that support darkness. Sometimes one masquerades as the other, or a person might exhibit enough light that you get blinded to the darkness that is running them. The sefirah Gevurah is important in developing discrimination. It is the sefirah of setting boundaries and limits. Engaging the mental level of Tree is critical in getting the energy of Gevurah, judgment, in balance with the Divine flow.

This class explored the Divine Presence, Shechinah in Hebrew, associated with Malchut on the Tree of Life. The root of the word Shachen (shen, kaf, nun sofi), means to settle, inhabit or dwell. Shechinah is the feminine form of the word, therefore It is associated with the feminine nature of God. Shechinah is a vessel for the entire energy of the Tree. Through Her, we manifest the amount and quality of the Holy Light pouring through us via our actions and our words.
Another aspect of the Divine Presence dwelling in us is It helping us generate a level of creativity that truly is Divinely inspired. This ties in to divine abundance (Shefa); when the living waters are flowing they can connect us to high realms of light and energy.

This class focused on being in the flow of life through examining certain aspects of Yesod (Foundation). Being in the flow is about devoting our power, creativity, and procreativity to serving the Divine. If our foundation is ego based, or the ego takes over at certain times, we will use our power to serve the needs of the ego. When we devote ourselves out of our love for God to serving that love, we are saying, “Yes!” to being in the Divine flow, the river of abundance that is the essence of life.
